Recently went through my uni's website again and was pleasantly surprised to find this.

What's my thing? Music, Words, Art, Travel, People -how much does Pharmacy fit in? a wee bit, or a stepping stone?

I want to create art (songs, literature, images) that will touch the heart, create realisation-of God's love for people, of His endless hope instead of a hopeless end that so many only see.

Pieces that instill motivation & conviction- people to get out of ruts, addiction, or just simply the mundane.

I want to travel to new countries, cultures, and learn about diff customs- and share with them my own as well.

I want to be involved in a ministry of restoration, linked to a proper organization, that reaches out to communities, to bring healing and deliverance. If possible, on a multinational scale.

In all this, sharing the greatest Gift of all.

As for now, i am a Pharmacy student with two 3000-word essays to write and a huge report to complete; - who still gets bugged by distracting thoughts, has addictions to break, and gets his class venues and times mixed up; -who doesn't have the best people skills and sometimes doesn't care at all about the rest of the world.

So does that mean I quit studying altogether? Not if Col 3:23 rings true in my life. His word- which is not merely one of My Things but is The Thing. And since He knows best what makes me tick (He being my creator), I can't go wrong.
Put into the right perspective, studying will be my thing.

Perhaps Pharmacy has given me a better heart for people? - (not really, church did a far greater job)
Perhaps Pharmacy will be a launchpad for a future ministry? - (yes, maybe...)
Perhaps it wasn't at all about Pharmacy, rather about the people & experiences ive come into contact with? (hmm..)

21 years elapsed. Our lives in the 21st century average out about 75 years.

Finally, something thats not out of the deep deep recesses of my overworking brain.

My Grandma has been baptised!
After 98 years!

A family so steeped in tradition, false idols, superstitions,... and now the head honcho so to speak (grandad has left) has come to the light. She always has had a special place in my heart and am very very grateful that God has convicted her.

After a distressing time mulling over how sin seems to be glorified these days, i have been praying for a sign of God's working hand in my life- this week in particular. And He has answered; Amen!

No doubt this is proof enough for me that He sees (El Roi), He is able (El Yakol), and is faithful (El Aman).

just received further clarification that my grandma's house has been cleansed, all the idols taken down. Plus no more ancestral worship during Cheng Beng. Really wished i culd've been there to witness the whole ordeal. Never in my lifetime did i ever think id see the last of those joss-sticks and pink muffins, that fat balding guy with the pot-belly, the red-faced kitchen god, gold frogs etc. Though i did recall saying a prayer or two everytime i passed by those paraphernalia. My fears: the impossible weather, unpredictable temper, and not enough jam on my bread.

Had a mini debate recently bout whether its right to have expectations of other people-friends, family,...church leaders. (or at least to what extent). A friend pointed out in the end that the best way is to only expect from God. All else,...keep it zero. Not even one bit. Cos people being people, are not perfect and will disappoint you somehow--even more so if you have great expectations of them. Goes without saying that with great expectations comes great disappointment. Still, theres always this tendency to expect somehow...

Hence my resolve to begin a 30 day zero expectations regime ala Morgan Spurlock's 30-day series. Even the most menial of things such as waiting for an sms....or for food to be on the table by dinner time. No expectations buddy. No complaints.

Wonderful movie bout how a sweet (pun intended) mother and child arrive at a town so steeped in stiff tradition. A seemingly tranquil vicinity plagued discreetly by much violence, hatred, frustration, and grief. ....and what better way to set it free than the exquisite simple delight of "oh-so-sinful" chocolate. What was viewed as sin eventually became their Saviour, and she that was viewed as Satan proved in the end to be perhaps sent from Heaven.

At first was worried about the possible wrong message it seemed to be sending about Christians,...but later all is redeemed by a great revealing ending. Especially how both the town and its visitors (woman&child) are freed from their respective bondages of tradition; and the final reminder of Christ's humanity.
Love the final line of Pere's ending 'homility'/sermon:

"We don't measure goodness by what we don't do, what we deny ourselves, what we resist, who we exclude; but by what we embrace, what we create, and who we include."

Chocolat- another one to add to the list of movies the church needs to watch (in my opinion) alongside Saved, Kingdom of Heaven, and,...recently the play Runaway Bride by Footstool players.

Rather contradictory to the final line of my previous post dated 16/5/2005.(Purpose-ful update)- the quote by Rick Warren.

Sometimes being a Christian may get one so puffed up and self-righteous inside that nothing shows on the outside. Things get internalized too much and we think we are alright...infact, the best man can be and therefore see no need for improvement. We think we have all the answers and maturity to get on with life. Cynicism sets in and unwittingly, we close doors to ideas, advice, and worst of all, people. ~people whom we are to reach? Ah, the irony.

So which quote holds more weight? I'm thinking the former. Or is it unfair to compare the two somehow?

On a differrent note, Pizza Hut has finally come up with an offer to rival Domino's "Buy 1 free 1" Gold card offer. Hopefully, it'll be here to stay. My Domino monthly rituals can finally (hopefully) be over.

For the uninitiated, my family are regular patrons of Domino's...we utilize the Gold Card every month. It's killing me but i don't have much say in it. I prefer Pizza Hut's pizzas but my whining always falls on deaf ears just because Domino's is more economical. Hopefully things will change now. :P

Reuben Morgan worship event

The worship event with Reuben Morgan was exactly what it proposed to be- a worship event. Guess i had the wrong idea about it being a sort of promotional concert for his debut solo album. Why, they weren't even selling it (the album) at the event. They sold other merchandise tho' that contributed to the Sun Child Project - a missions endeavour of Five Lines which supports 3rd world development through literacy programs and orphanages, community work in Australia and church planting. Five Lines was initiated by Reuben himself so expect to find details of his progress/tour at the Five Lines website as well.

Managed to peek in on their practice session before the concert and grab a few pics with the band and some autographs before the masses mobbed them that night. Ah, the benefits of being on the AV team. =P Considered myself lucky as Reuben did not immediately give out his autograph after the concert. He was simply shut in a separate room securely guarded by Canaanland(the organizers) staff. Apparently he was tired. Still speculating on this...not sure whether the Canaanland people were trying to isolate him for some inexplicable reason/he was really tired/he didn't like the whole celebrity thing. On the contrary, his band members freely gave their autographs & pics. Guess they needed the publicity more than Reuben did. haha.

CF Camp was good. Venue: Peacehaven, Genting. Theme: Choices. 1 person got saved...and others were touched definitely. We had Pastor Sivin Kit to speak. And he spoke well. haha. I personally liked the publicity for the camp. Nicely designed posters all around IMU including the toilets.

Been reminded lately alot to think about my purpose in life. Like 3 times this week. Monday-Inter-religious Forum topic was on the purpose of life; Wed- CF meeting, we touched on our purpose as students in IMU; today-watching Hitchhiker's Guide to the galaxy(Don't Panic! lol)..."the ultimate question:purpose/meaning of life?" Not a new question of course, but not an oft-pondered one either. There is a need to be constantly reminded of our purpose...

Hillsongs & Planetshakers: Two established Christian music groups from Aussie whose music were played during Friday Night.
Hypertension & Beta-blockers: Band names of the 2 accapella groups that performed. Both were very good.
Tinnitus: Name of the closing band for the night. Also a medical term for "ringing in the ears".

Redeemed-matt(drums), eeyan(bass), sarah(2nd guitar), joyce+ben(vocals), tom(lead guitar), cindy(keyboards).
The lettering for the backdrop(Exuberance) slowly fell out thru out the night-result a of lousy adhesive job. :P
This talentime was interesting as a strong Christian presence was felt. The first 3 acts were outwardly Christian ones: Ben~with his self-composition about relying on God in times of sadness, LED~played mostly Planetshakers songs and got some of the crowd jumpin', Redeemed~played mostly Hillsongs. It was almost like an evangelistic concert and hopefully lives were touched. I know I was,-the fire evident in several individuals that night encouraged me to live more boldly for Christ. Praise God!

Nuts

Renovation works at my neighbour's house has been driving me nuts for the past couple a' days. Incessant drilling up the walls, feels like they're drilling those nuts right into my head.
Other than that, am in a rut as to how to go about with the upcoming carolling programme for IMU CF. It's so hard to just find a suitable time for everyone to meet. And we gotta be ready by Dec 1st. Insane I tell ya'. In the mean time, the following helps keep me sane.

Acoustic Alchemy & Fourplay. Two different yet amazing jazz bands. One from the UK and the other from US. Both have garnered several awards and nominations including the much coveted National Smooth Jazz Awards. For more information, do check out their respective sites (linked above). Thanks Guan for the 4play dvd. Nathan East reminded me abit of George Huff-(American Idol fame) at first glance. It's amazing seeing them play live...the amount of effort and concentration put in...sweating profusely, and i doubt it was due to heat/excess physical exertion. :P

Finally got meself a semi-acoustic guitar. something which has been on my mind for so long. An SX dreadnought semi-acoustic. It's nothing much to shout about though (relatively speaking~to all the Taylors, Matons, etc. out there) but for the price, its one of the best around. Paid RM1K for everything you see here.
Pros: good volume, solid body, nice finishing, affordable price tag. Cons: sound is to jarring, difference between bass and treble tones are not distinct~prob. can make up for this using the active pickups when plugged in.

some noteworthy entries from the recent IMU art competition themed 'Metamorphosis'. The 2 categories displayed here are sketching/painting & photography. Hmm, goes to show that medic/pharmacy students are not just complete study nerds. Why, judging from the entries here, you might wonder if the participants are in the wrong course! was gonna join it too myself, but now i know i didn't stand a chance. lol. :P (note Chee Mun's entry:~> the caterpillar 'cum' butterfly. An actual leaf was used in the painting-guess which one. )

Prepared to go to Tioman last Wednesday. Left my luggage in the student affairs store room as usual and proceeded to CF. You see, i treat the store room there as my locker cos u can keep stuff there free of charge. However, i forgot they close at 5:30pm. So, after CF (which ended around 7:30pm) i totally freaked out. Ended up goin back home and repacking all over again for the 4day-3night trip. Only thing that i missed was my camera-stuck in bag at IMU! Bummer. Therefore no bag-->no camera-->no photos from Tioman trip here.
*sigh*
Highlights of the trip were playing taboo, snorkelling, more taboo, waterfall, taboo again, fishing on a clear windy night-hundreds of stars filled the clear night sky. Furthermore, there was a blackout on the island..adding to the increased visibility of the stars (wonder if the blackout was on purpose). That was just beautiful. Managed to catch 3 shooting stars. Forgot to make any wishes tho'.

Identity

Just watched Identity the other day. (feat. John Cusack-one of my fav. actors) Disturbing thriller with a twisted ending...till now, i'm not sure i made correct sense out of that movie. haha. main issue dealt with was Multiple personality disorder. Just occured that quite a number of films these days deal with the issue of identity (inc. Bourne Identity, Who Am I?). argh, finding your own identity is so important in this world yet so perplexing at times. I guess thats why ppl face identity crises. yours truly not exempted. Sometimes i feel like i was just born yesterday...or maybe thats how i want to be. Born all over again. grew up an introvert and was morbidly introspective alot. Feel a strong need to break the mould...and stop living lies. To step out and attack life. Wonder who i was really meant to be and how short i've fallen from God's original plan. Its humbling..as we consider God's grace freely given irrespective of who we make ourselves to be*.
As depicted in the lyrics of the song Undeserving written by Yee Meng, "You knew who i am and what i could be, and yet you loved and died for me".

*~who we make ourselves to be...of course we're influenced by genotypes and phenotypes, but ultimately its still up to us to choose the kind of person we want to be. Just need to know how to go about doing it. It's never too late to change.

Wanted to put up a comment on a frens blog, so i was forced to get one (blog) myself. I hate to do this cos i know no ones gonna read it, but hey,- this is a good enuf excuse i guess. Think i will use this to gratify my need to be heard (as read on another frens blog); even tho it may be just myself who is "hearing" this. But i guess mebbe we all need to start sumwhere and mebbe there will be viewers to my postings in time to come. Pretty much goes on in my delusional head and i need to get it out, so mebbe this'll help. Oops...am in uni rite now and i got a class comin up so ...
